Beehive on Your Property? Here are Some Tips to Deal With It

Bees are one of the most beneficial living beings on earth and you should leave them alone. That being said, bee stings hurt a mother and nobody wants a beehive in the backyard. So, what do you do when you suddenly find a beehive on your property? Call an insect exterminator in OKC? Yes, that’s an option, but there are more.

Find Out Who They Are

As we’ve mentioned above, bees should not be hurt because they are beneficial beings. But you need to identify them first to understand if they are truly good ones or not. If the bees are regular honeybees, it makes more sense (and helps the earth) to relocate them to a beekeeper’s. So, get a photo somehow and consult an entomologist.

Call an Exterminator

As it may have come first in your head, calling a good insect exterminator in OKC may be the first idea in this case. But this is not a job for someone cheap and green. Beehives are very dangerous because of their stings and the sheer number of them. A single hive on your garage wall can contain ten thousand bees! Only a patient and experienced exterminator can stun the bees and access the hive safely.

Hire Out a Beekeeper

The very best idea to deal with bees, if these are honey bees, is to call a beekeeper who can move the hive instead of destroying it. The number of bees is going down and we should do our best to help these creatures, not hurt them. A beekeeper (or someone they know) will be able to safely move them to a good area. Search your farmer’s market or florist or plant nursery for contacts of beekeepers.

Leave it Alone

As said above, bee populations are reducing, and we should leave them alone if it's not a problem for us. This is the very best way to deal with bees — just work away from them and let them do their thing. If you or a neighbor has a large garden, or if you grow your vegetables, then the bees are actually doing you a big favor. But if the hive is on your house or your family is getting stung often, then it's time to do something, like the above two options.
